Helloween

Con este nuevo y joven cantante, una mezcla entre el fraseo expresivo y enfático de Dio, el timbre y calidad de un Robert Plant, mas la evidente influencia de Bruce Dickinson y Geoff Tate como su máxima y notoria influencia, grabaron su siguiente álbum, la primera parte del que seria considerado uno de los registros más importante del power metal y de la historia del metal: "Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part 1" en 1987.

En este disco se rescataba la experiencia metalera del álbum anterior ("Walls Of Jericho"), además de añadir el sonido melódico y épico que aportaba la extraordinaria voz de Michael Kiske; Kai Hansen pudo concentrarse exclusivamente en la composición, arreglos y ejecución de la guitarra junto al otro guitarrista Michael Weikath. Con este trabajo y sus presentaciones en vivo, Helloween rápidamente se convirtió en la banda de mayor éxito de Europa de aquél entonces, sabiendo conquistar a un amplio séquito de fans.

"Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part" 1 es considerado uno de los mejores discos de Helloween y hasta cierto punto se puede considerar que con este álbum nació el prototipo alemán de power metal épico. Originalmente se planeó lanzar "Keeper of the seven keys" como un álbum doble pero la compañía de discos sugirió sacar las dos partes por separado. Para muchos la verdadera obra maestra del álbum era "Halloween", una especie de mini-ópera rápida, progresiva y melódica.

Puede considerarse perfectamente como el himno por excelencia del power metal. "Halloween" dura algo más de 13 minutos y es sin duda una de las epopeyas más memorables del género metálico. Contiene un coro fantasmal, cambios de tempo, coros y cientos de riffs y solos guitarra. Es uno de los temas más completos y épicos de la banda, el tema que quizá lo resume todo. Un Hansen inspiradísimo que tiene aquí a la mejor banda posible para llevar a cabo una obra de arte de tal envergadura.
